Do Space® would not be possible without the generous support of our volunteers. By participating in our volunteer program, the community directly contributes to the success of our mission and programs. We provide a variety of impactful opportunities for all levels that range from general community assistance to high level technology mentoring. We can’t wait to get you involved!

 

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

  • Complete the volunteer application
  • Select a 30 minute one-on-one slot with the Volunteer Coordinator to review the volunteer program policies and procedures
  • Attend a training session for your designated badge
  • Sign up for shifts through our online volunteer calendar

REQUIREMENTS

  • 12 years of age or older, 12-15 must have parent or guardian inside the building
  • Completed volunteer application
  • Commitment to a regular schedule and/or availability to teach or mentor
  • Volunteer status is pending until application is reviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator and training is complete

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE

 

  • Advocates believe in our mission of making technology accessible to all and are passionate about innovation that creates opportunity. They are the friendly faces that greet the community and enrich Do Space by assisting new members.
  • Advocates specifically are involved with tours, membership sign-ups, and general assistance.
  • This position is perfect if you enjoy interacting with people! No tech experience required. We request a minimum of four shifts per month for no less than six months.
  • 3D Gurus assist our members by answering questions about the advanced creative technologies in our 3D Lab and are central to assisting members with the operation of our 3D printers, laser cutter, and vinyl cutter.
  • 3D Gurus also assist Do Space staff by working on special projects. Projects range from creating objects for special events and displays to developing new learning tools for our members.
  • The 3D guru position is ideal for those with the desire to help our members reach the next level of their creative potential. We request a minimum of four shifts per month for no less than six months.
  • Do Space Explorers are important to the enrichment of our youth and adult programs by providing guidance to our members as they learn something new. Explorers make our programs fun!
  • Explorers assist with Do Space programs such as Cyber Seniors and youth programs, acting as an assistant educator and/or event assistant.
  • Minimum time commitment varies upon proposed program. Explorers are vital to the success of our programs and are asked to attend each time the program meets.
  • Sidekicks enhance the community as a technology resource for Omaha.
  • As a Sidekick you will share your passion for tech by assisting members at the tech help desk with basic software and hardware questions to enhance their experience and improve their basic skills.  
  • The Sidekick position is ideal for people with general tech skills and “go getters” willing to search for the answers. We ask for a minimum of four shifts per month for no less than six months.
  • Do Space Mentor position is ideal for people with specialized skills that are looking for a way to give back to the Omaha community! Mentors are technology tutors for the Do Space community, and are crucial to the success of Do Space by giving us the ability to answer virtually any tech question.
  • Mentors meet with Do Space members to assist in jump-starting a project or skill for a one-on-one meeting.
  • Mentors are asked to have at least four available hours per month. This position is very flexible and perfect for those with limited availability.
