Do Space would not be possible without the support of volunteers who contribute to our programs and assist our members. They are the pulse of everything we do and give us the ability to offer members help in all different kinds of skills. Each month we try to introduce our members to one of our volunteers. The goal of this effort it to capture and share the people that are volunteering at Do Space and how it positively affects their lives. What led them to volunteer? What sort of impact are they making? And why they continue to contribute?

This month we are pleased to introduce you to Makayla. She has held the role of Explorer at Do Space since September! Makayla is a student studying Management Information Studies when she is not spending her time at Do Space. Take a moment to learn more about her:

What led you to volunteer at Do Space?
I have always had a passion for technology and love helping people when they are having trouble. I decided to volunteer at Do Space because I knew it would be a great way to gain experience in the technology field. I am majoring in the IT field, so I knew it would be a good fit.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering at Do Space?
I enjoy interacting with the people that come in seeking help. Being able to show them how to fix something or show them something new really makes me happy to be there.

What position do you hold at Do Space and how does it contribute towards Do Space mission?
I am an Explorer helping with Tech Help Tuesday. It contributes towards the mission because I am helping to ensure everyone is able to have access to technology and I am teaching them the necessary skills they need.

When was a time that you felt like you made a difference and really helped a member?
I once had to teach a member how to use Amazon, and I felt I really made a difference because knowing how to use online sites is a convenient and easy way to shop.

What is something you would tell a friend that is thinking about volunteering?
I would tell them just do it! Volunteering is such a great opportunity, and giving back to the community even if it is just an hour or two a week is so awesome.
